The Discovery Group provides a full range of geological and petrophysical consulting services including:
- Geologic and stratigraphic studies – We have conducted regional geologic and stratigraphic analyses in
sedimentary basins throughout the world, including both
carbonate and siliciclastic sections from Precambrian to Tertiary
age. We are pioneers in techniques such as the use of digital rock
descriptions to calibrate core data with wireline logs; digital
methods to describe cuttings and sidewall cores; rock typing and
rock catalogs. We have the background in stratigraphy, carbonate
sedimentology, clastic sedimentology, and basin analysis to tie all
the data together and give you a coherent picture of your play or
field. We have the oilfield experience required to keep the work
practical. We focus our efforts on making you more money.
- Reservoir characterization – We produce detailed reservoir descriptions integrating geological,
petrophysical, and engineering data to characterize every aspect of
your producing formations. We can custom tailor characterization
projects for your use in reserve estimates, equity determinations,
completion and stimulation planning, infill drilling programs,
secondary or tertiary recovery projects, reservoir simulation
studies, and exploration play analysis. We can provide two or three dimensional geo-cellular models.
- Field studies – We combine expertise in both exploration and development
geology with state-of-the-art computer facilities and software to
produce detailed cross-sections, structural and stratigraphic maps,
and reservoir property maps. We integrate the results of the
reservoir geology and characterization work to estimate in-place
hydrocarbons, evaluate reservoir compartmentalization, assess
permeability anisotropy, examine infill drilling potential, and
recommend optimal recovery strategies.
- Petrophysics and log analysis – We offer complete petrophysical and well log analysis services,
including the integration of open-hole and cased-hole logging data
with core analyses and geologic core descriptions. Our log analysis
software is service company independent and we're experts in the
manipulation and analysis of large data sets with diverse log
types. We have the expertise to interpret the latest array
resistivity, dipole sonic, and nuclear magnetic resonance tools and
we're on top of the latest developments in data acquisition and
analysis.
- Unconventional Resource Evaluations – We have worked on gas shale and tight sandstone plays all over the world and can evaluate the potential for economic development in both frontier and established provinces. We have developed proprietary log interpretation methodologies for tight sands and shales to accurately determine gas in place, to evaluate effective gas permeability, identify water zones, and deal with many other difficult evaluation problems in these unusual reservoirs. We're the "non-conventional" thinkers when it comes to unconventional resources, so let us help you think outside the box and make the right decisions.
- Training in Basic Petrophysics and Log Analysis – We offer a two-day course: Basic Openhole Log Interpretation. The course assumes no logging knowledge and seeks to establish an understanding of basic petrophysical measurements and interpretation techniques which can be applied to routine tasks, and upon which more complex and advanced information and interpretive techniques can be built.
The course strives to provide a strong and coherent foundation for the understanding of other, specialized interpretation techniques involving well log data, which are not covered in this course. To view the course agenda please click here.
